Recent Successes for SMTA Priority Projects

- The regional Transportation Planning Board agreed to study 10 long-range projects, policies and programs that could be game-changers in solving regional transportation. These included two of SMTA’s highest priorities: 1) a northern bridge crossing the Potomac River and 2) a regional express travel network which includes Express Toll Lanes (free to HOV/Transit) for I-270, Capitol Beltway, Dulles Toll Road and U.S. 50; and widening the American Legion Bridge.
- In a letter to the Maryland Department of Transportation, County Executive Ike Leggett and the Montgomery County Council listed I-270 Express Toll/HOV/Transit Lanes as the #1 priority.
